Pacific Korea, Inc. was established in 1984 as a fishing gear
manufacturer with the ardent requests from cust-
omers in intimacy. The main products were fishing rods and reels. In
1989, all the production facilities were
transferred to Pacific Fishing Tackle China LTD., a subsidiary company in China,
and at the same time, Pacific
Korea, Inc. stepped into hunting industry in full swing.
The first thing in hunting business marked Optronics spotlights from U. S. A. in
1987, and by 1990, all hunting
articles were increased to more than 16 in numbers. These included hunting
boots, shotshells, spotlights,of
course, and a number of trifle accessories with an exception of hunting shotguns.
In 1990, pacific Korea, Inc., got the shotgun import license from the government
for the first time in the busine-
ss. By then, non governmental private firms were unable to perform the import
of firearms, and this became a
n occasion to put full spurs on our hunting business. On recall, it was a turning
point for us to immerse in the
business, and on the principle of the persistence of one business avoiding the
dispersion of business capabi-
lity, the fishing manufacturing facilities in China had to meet an end in 1993. Ever since, our main business has been
focused on hunting and today we try to expand merchandise as ma-
ny as possible while we try to raise good crops of those things we are representing
here in this market. A very
devoted truthfulness in mutual progress is just what we place emphasis on.
This is firm and chaste busine-
ss philosphy and ethics we have on our counterparts. Once engaged, we make it a
principle to keep this
relationship in perpetual continuance.
Today we are keeping uncommon
partnerships with more than 13 companies in various countries. Some of
them are more than a decade old partners in deep mutual trusts.

Hunting in Korea drove a splendid business since early 80's in the wake of a long
silence which had been res-
ulted from the strong control rules over firearms by the military regime, and
civilian hunters and shooters retook
their rights of hunting after long tough years of helplessness. The
number of hunters, in its historical years, w-
as almost doubled during 1992 - 1996 alone. This shows a dramatic turn
around of increasing number of sh-
otguns as well as hunters.
As the Korean economy mourned under the control of IMF in 1997, the inflow of
shotguns from overseas hit the
bottom for the first time in 15 years. To make things worse, some
irresponsible party lured new staffs in the
Ministry of Envirronment, which rules the hunting and wild-life convervation, into
establishing a written test sys-
tem for newcomers in hunting to take the control over it and to survive with the
residuals whilst keeping a vigil
over illegal huntings, so called "night hunting". Their
activities shows partly affirmative views in a sense that
night hunters by far decreased in numbers and the number of individual wild-life
increased considerably.
However this unprepared and virtually ignorant undertaking of hunting business by
the personnels in charge
within the ministry resulted in many irrational consequences, and this has put them
entirely dependant upon
a group in the persuit of profit and distinction. The group has manipulated
some brains in the ministry, and
they are still following the instructions of the group no matter how wrong and
incorrect their advices are. In a
single word, the policy maker lacks in the speciality and voluntary effortrs to set
up right principles enacting un-
shakable hunting provisions. In spite of some praise-worthy activities of hunting
related organizations, their dark transactions were over sh-
adowed by dirty plays and too harsh actions such as bribes-to-be free of those
arrested and vicious punishme-
nt over minor offenses. Still poorer, the policy makers in environmetal
sectors and journalists are either taking
advices or reporting wrong and crooked stories from this group. This has set
unseen discords among hunters
and gunshops. Also, this group has made clients not believie gunshops denying all
transactional distibution
stages. Gunshops are now losing standboards where they rely on. In the past 4
years, more than 50% of the
gunshops nationwide have closed their doors.
Nevertherless, we are on brand new trial stages - for the first time in those
years, hunting fields opened for hu-
nters during the season were too restrictive both in areas and numbers to
accomodate no other than 50% of
hunters. The rest of them had to stay put bearing all these furies.
The increase ratio of either hunters or shot-
guns has been nose diving since the start of hunting test years ago, and it's true
that gunshops are experienci-
ng hardest ordeals than ever thesedays, but years of experiences and hard lessons
hunters have bought thro-
ugh those rootless policies will hopefully and necessarily work as a cornerstone
for the progress of Korean
hunting culture.
On the other hand, it's
fortunate that we could welcome qualified hunters who succeded in surviving fierce wri-
tten test which some claimed that it's the toughest ever. For those who
became real hunters for these past fe-
w years, it's just not good enough to praise them with simple words.
This means that we can expect bright pr-
ospects of our hunting culture not only in quality but also in nature
conservation fields in years to come..
